Foreign Object Damage (FOD) is the damage to aircraft engine components as a result of particle impact. This damage can alter fatigue strength. This work aims to study the influence of a ball impact on the fatigue strength of an hourglass specimen. Normal and oblique impact directions were considered. The residual stresses after impact were added to rotating bending stresses to identify the areas where crack nucleation is expected when the specimen is subject to fatigue stresses.

Abstract
Foreign Object Damage (FOD) is the damage to aircraft engine components as a result of particle impact. This damage can alter fatigue strength. This work aims to study the influence of a ball impact on the fatigue strength of an hourglass specimen. Normal and oblique impact directions were considered. The residual stresses after impact were added to rotating bending stresses to identify the areas where crack nucleation is expected when the specimen is subject to fatigue stresses.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
