On the basis of the research on the (virtual) linguistic landscaping, our study deals with the question of the coexistence of Sassarese and Gallurese with Sardinian in public spaces in single locations of Northern Sardinia and in the cyberspace, also in relation to the complex situation of the legislation on minority languages on the island. Our research, therefore, aims at describing the use of Italo-Romance varieties in Northern Sardinia by various official bodies but also by cultural institutions, restaurateurs, shopkeepers in real and virtual space. Methodologically this article is based on the most recent findings on the study of the linguistic landscapes (LL) and virtual linguistic landscapes (VLL). It considers the fact that a clear division between top-down and bottom-up initiatives is not always possible in the virtual space, but that the fluidity and accessibility of the web grants new niches of visibility to minority languages. The data, still being updated, are essentially of two types: photographs documenting the public use of Sassarese and Gallurese (also in multilingual contexts with Sardinian, Italian and other languages) and a review of institutional and private homepages where Sassarese and Gallurese are commonly used.
