This study proposes a comparative analysis of the editorial politics of two children’s publishing houses, Babalibri and L’école des loisirs, whose relationship was built on exchanges of rights of works to be translated. The study is based on the theoretical framework of Translation Studies from a gender perspective as well as on discourse analysis. It examines the ethos projected by the managers of the two publishing houses in two corpora of interviews, as well as by their catalogues and by their editorial choices. The analysis shows that the two publishing houses do not have the same willingness to engage politically and to be open to gender issues due to their positioning in the literary field as well as to the different socio-cultural contexts in which they operate.
