Three iconographic cycles accompany Gottfried von Strassburg’s Tristan in three manuscripts dating from the 13th to the 15th centuries. Informed by a comparative approach and focusing on the episode of Tristan’s combat against Morholt, this study seeks to elucidate the relationship between text and image, and to explore the evidence about audience and reception as presented by techniques, choice of scenes, placement of the illustrations within the manuscript, and variations from the text.

Abstract
Three iconographic cycles accompany Gottfried von Strassburg’s Tristan in three manuscripts dating from the 13th to the 15th centuries. Informed by a comparative approach and focusing on the episode of Tristan’s combat against Morholt, this study seeks to elucidate the relationship between text and image, and to explore the evidence about audience and reception as presented by techniques, choice of scenes, placement of the illustrations within the manuscript, and variations from the text.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
