This paper explores, by means of an empirical case, the linkage between sustainability and lean thinking facilitated by an action learning approach. The expected outcome of this paper is the construction of a framework to develop learning-to-learn capabilities and measure environmental performance of organizations by using a lean transformation approach. The work contributes both to lean theory and practice providing an empirical case in which a lean transformation approach is implemented. Moreover, it contributes to research design by demonstrating the suitability of an action learning methodology to explore and investigate the topic.
