The current study combines elements of tourism studies, English for specific purposes, and classical rhetorical theory to examine emotional appeals in text-based promotional discourse in English for different forms of tourism, with an emphasis on developing effective textual emotional messages.
Different kinds of tourism can engender different emotional responses; thus, it is necessary to analyze each type’s emotional calculus in detail. A database of English-language words associated with each emotion is presented.
The database contains a number of grammatical forms for the English-language words along with usage notes relevant to tourist promotional discourse.
